Artist's Description

Sunol CA is a single-intersection town a couple miles West of Pleasanton where we lived for 20+ years. It was originally a train stop on the First Transcontinental Railroad across the United States, connected with the famous Golden Spike in 1869, and now is Niles Railroad tourist station with a steam train going up and down a valley following Alameda Creek to Niles, a district in the City of Fremont. Niles is renowned as the spot they filmed the silent movie “The Tramp” in 1915 with Charlie Chaplin. My favorite Sunol story is that they elected a dog to be the sitting Mayor for many years (a small protest).
